How to Convert Audio to MP3 on Windows

Windows can play most audio, but it won't convert files to MP3 on its own without extra software. You don't need to install anything: mp3bat runs in Edge, Chrome, or Firefox and converts on your own PC, so the file never leaves it.

Step by step

  1. Open the converter. In any modern browser on your PC, open the mp3bat converter page.
  2. Add your file. Drag your audio file from File Explorer onto the drop zone, or click to browse for it.
  3. Choose quality. Select a bitrate — 320 kbps for best quality, 192 kbps for a smaller file.
  4. Convert. Click Convert to MP3. Encoding happens on your PC's processor, in the tab.
  5. Save the MP3. Click Download. The file lands in your Downloads folder, ready to use.

FAQ

Does Windows have a built-in MP3 converter?

Not a general one. Windows Media Player can rip CDs to MP3, but it won't convert arbitrary audio files. A browser-based converter is the quickest no-install option.

Is it safe to convert audio online on Windows?

With mp3bat, yes — because nothing actually goes online. The conversion runs locally in your browser, so your file is never uploaded to a server.
